Heri Dono’s solo exhibition “Higeki no Kigeki: Komedi dalam Tragedi” at Kyushu Geibunkan, Fukuoka, Japan, curated by Yuki Hatori.

There will be a Wayang Momotaro Performance by Heri Dono during the opening ceremony on Saturday, 9 March 2024. The exhibition runs from 9 to 24 March 2024, at 10 am – 5 pm.

Heri Dono also will perform and participate in a talk event at Fukuoka Asian Art Museum.

Macao International Art Biennale 2023

“Art Macao”, will be held from July to October of this year, is an international art event organized by the Macao Special Administrative Region Government integrating resources from various sectors in the S.A.R., aimed at congregating global creative forces to produce a city-wide signature biennale event. Renowned curator Qiu Zhijie is the chief curator of “Art Macao: Macao International Art Biennale 2023”, which has adopted the theme “The Statistics of Fortune” to reflect on the expectations and concerns caused by the development of science and technology and explore the clashes and interactions between science and religion. From summer to autumn, through eight sections – , namely, the Main Exhibition, Public Art Exhibition, City Pavilion, Special Exhibition, Invitational Exhibition by Local Artists, Local Curatorial Project, Art Exhibition of Higher Education Institutions and Collateral Exhibition, nearly 30 art exhibitions will be presented across the city, in a showcase of modern and contemporary masterpieces that are zestful and representative, by over 200 artists from more than 20 countries and regions, allowing visitors to experience the breadth and depth of art while at the same time embarking on a grand aesthetic journey. The objective is to raise to a new level the cultural and artistic atmosphere of Macao as a famous World Heritage city.

Meet our artist for the Cosmos Chronology Space Art Exhibition!

𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗶 𝗗𝗼𝗻𝗼 (𝗜𝗗)

Starting his career in the ‘80s, Heri Dono has gained international attention in the global art scene since the ‘90s. His artistic practice develops from his interest to revitalize arts rooted in Indonesian tradition. In his installation works, he combines elements of wayang puppet shows such as the visual, mantra, sounds, and storytelling narratives that contain social criticism, humor, and myths surrounding the philosophies of life, with multimedia, performativity, and participatory elements that are characteristics of contemporary art. This results in an amalgamation of traditional and popular culture that is both fantastic and abstract. Heri Dono has participated in more than 300 exhibitions and 36 international biennales, as well as various other awards both nationally and internationally.

In Cosmos Chronology, Heri Dono shows the artwork with the title “𝗨𝗻𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗨𝗻𝗳𝗹𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗢𝗯𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁”.

The Cosmos Chronology Space Art Exhibition will be open to the public from July 14 to July 23, 2023, from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. in IFI LIP Yogyakarta

This program is sponsored by Korea Foundation Jakarta and supported by Institut Français Indonesia.

The cosmos, a boundless realm that captivates the human imagination, takes center stage at the #𝗖𝗼𝘀𝗺𝗼𝘀𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 offers visitors a unique opportunity to delve into the mysteries and wonders of the universe through a diverse array of art forms and interactive experiences.

Part of Indonesia UFO Festival 2023 Indonesia UFO Network (IUN), #𝗖𝗼𝘀𝗺𝗼𝘀𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 unfolds through three main sections. “𝗠𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻” showcases the works of eight Korean and Indonesian media artists; “𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗠𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻” displays innovative concepts for tools and modules for sustainable living on Mars; “𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗻” reveals imaginative minds of tomorrow’s space explorers.

A Solo Exhibition by Heri Dono: ‘WORSHIP TO POWER’

The narrative of Heri Dono’s solo exhibition was built around the two particular works created during the critical years of democracy in the Indonesian New Order regime: “Worship to Power” (10th Biennale of Sydney, 1996) and “Blooming in Arms” (Museum of Modern Art Oxford, 1996).

Presenting the works by Heri Dono made during the critical years of Indonesian democracy and presenting them within the contemporary context is an active attempt to fight against forgetting. In this exhibition as well as in visiting Studio Kalahan, one is face to face with archival material of art history within the artist’s practice and at the same time recording the socio-political history of Indonesia during the 90s.
